Golf tournament for Veterans

Inaugural West Georgia Patriots Golf Tournament Tees Off on May 14 to Benefit Area Veterans

Tourney seeks players, sponsors for celebrity-filled event

BREMEN, Ga. (April 10, 2012) – Golfers from all over metro Atlanta, along with professional sports celebrities, will tee off at The Lion Golf Club on Monday, May 14, for the inaugural West Georgia Patriots Golf Tournament. The tournament proceeds will benefit West Georgia Patriots, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and welfare of West Georgia’s veterans and their families.

“The original idea for the tournament was to try and help relieve some of the financial pressures on our veterans by helping fund medical and rehabilitation treatment,” said Jim Winn, the tournament founder. “We have so many heroes who have returned home during the past century that need our support and it’s my passion to help them not only survive – but thrive.”

In addition to the round of golf, players will have an opportunity to spend time with the celebrities and enjoy complimentary breakfast and lunch, as well as door prizes, gift bags, an auction and presentations to winners upon completion of play.

Celebrity athletes from various professional teams – including MLB, NFL, NBA, PGA, NHL and Olympics – will be playing in the tournament by joining existing foursomes, as well as being available for autographs.

“Each foursome is accompanied by a celebrity and their number will be determined by entries,” Winn said. “Our volunteers are excited to make the players and celebrities feel welcome to ensure this is an event that they’ll want to participate annually.”

Entry fee is $250 for singles and $1,000 for foursomes, as well as sponsorships ranging from $100 to $5,000. Pre-registration can be done by calling Todd Parham at 770-537-1400 or emailing him at Todd@TheLionGolfClub.com.

The tournament is being held the day prior to the unveiling of the Trinka Davis Veteran’s Village, a sprawling compound, dedicated to the medical and rehabilitation needs of former U.S. Armed Forces members, in Carrollton, Ga.

Sponsors already signed up include Tech Systems, Chick-fil-A, Pike Nursery, Pioneer Ford, R. K. Redding Construction, Winn’s Lake Lodge, Simply Catering, Morgan Hardware, McNabb Tire, Slate Market Grill, Lamar’s Sports Center , Ping, Chase Bank, Conn’s Potato Chips of Zanesville (OH), FNB of Polk County, Mercedes-Benz of Buckhead, Keller Williams Realty, James O’Neal Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Mobley Jewelry, UPS, Gateway Printing, Yamaha and the Lion Golf Club-Ladies Golf Assoc.

Through an alliance with the Community Foundation of West Georgia, the tournament officially offers 501c3 non-profit status to its event sponsors and organization donors.
