Death of a definite article

I love watching pro football on TV. There is nothing better than curling up with my favorite bag of Fritos, a Red Hook Winter Ale, and settling-in for a couple hours of a great match-up.
I particularly like the team intros at the onset, where the players say which schools they came from. Being a big follower of college football as well, it's always interesting for me to know where these kids came from.

I have to admit though, I'm a little tired of an over-used definite article that started with players that graduated from The Ohio State University.
In the player intros, if a guy happened to graduate from this school, he would put an emphasis on the definite article the by saying thee Ohio State University.
At first it was cool (I guess from my beginnings in the fine state of Ohio), but now I'm over it. Now all players from all schools are in the mix of saying thee when they should or should not be saying the, and the whole player-intro-ritual gets lost in a pompous pronounciation of schools.
The breaking-point for me was when a player that said he graduated from Thee High school of GlenOak.

So I'm over word the, and apparently, so is Golf Channel.

Faster than Veej sped off in his new Mercedes, faster than the planet Pluto (sorry, I mean number 134340) got kicked to the curb, The Golf Channel dropped The off it's broadcast logo, and opted to go with Golf Channel.

I for one am happy with the new logo and moniker. So, goodbye the, it's been nice knowing thee.
